Carlos Betancourt artistic proposal is a meticulous accumulation of little apparent nonsense elements that builds up a new vibrant cosmogony.

His entire oeuvre is based on an insatiable quest for a complex and mutant identity hard to comprehend: the Carribean identity. Always heterogeneous and diverse, multi-racial, multi-lingual, trans-cultural, the Carribean culture is a avast kaleidoscope of complexity and variety. However his work is not a folkloric or a naive vocation which attracts Betancourt's attention but the desire of finding these influences in its connection with contemporary urban culture. The preference for the accumulation, the bright colors, the glossy surface, the exaggeration, and sometimes the grotesque, ties the artist's production with the tradition of the American pop culture.
